Today’s Lamrim Quote (2 January 2013)

Ngawang Drakpa of Dagpo

Ngawang Drakpa of Dagpo (15th century)

“Since cherishing yourself is the source of all misery,
And all excellence resides in cherishing others,
Cease cherishing yourself and neglecting others, and invert the orientation of the two attitudes;
Apply entire devotion to others’ welfare even to your breathing.”

From Essence of Fine Speech – Stages of the Path to Enlightenment by Ngawang Drakpa of Dagpo

As translated in: The Essence of All Sublime Discourses: The Definitive Door to Practice Drawn from the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, also known as The Gomchen Lamrim by Gomchen Ngawang Drakpa, which is included in The Pearl Garland: An Anthology of Lamrims, translated from the Tibetan under Venerable Dagpo Rinpoche’s guidance by Rosemary Patton, Editions Guepele (France).
